Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a simple, but efficient therapy using bilateral stimulation (BLS). BLS involves tapping, eye movements, auditory tones, or a combination to accelerate the brain's ability to process and heal trauma. EMDR can be effective in alleviating trauma-related symptoms from many years ago, or recently. Research has shown EMDR to be effective for PTSD, phobias, anxiety disorders, stress, disturbing memories, grief and addictions. EMDR helps the prain reintegrate the memory or image associated with the trauma, and store it in a different part of the brain. This allows the individual's own brain to reintegrate the memory and do the healing.
